Series Editor – The Hurtwood Artist & Gallery Series

For more than four decades, Hurtwood has worked with artists, galleries and cultural institutions to create beautifully produced art books. Our publishing programme encompasses collaborations across the contemporary art world, from internationally recognised artists and major museums to forward-thinking independent galleries and artists at every stage of their careers.

The Hurtwood Artist & Gallery Series has been developed to offer a refined and carefully structured publication format for contemporary artists. Each title is a substantial hardback that offers the best qualities of both an exhibition catalogue and a monograph – presenting either a significant new body of work or an expertly curated selection of recent pieces. Flexible in format, the series can be adapted to accompany gallery group exhibitions.

The series combines the editorial expertise and design quality associated with bespoke publishing within a streamlined production framework. By working with an established format, artists and galleries benefit from a clearly structured process, defined project parameters and carefully planned schedules, ensuring each publication is developed and delivered in a timely and considered manner.

Each book includes newly commissioned writing – typically a foreword by a prominent figure from the art world, an essay by a curator, writer or academic, and a substantial interview with the artist – alongside 30–60 plates accompanied by detailed captions and installation views.

The series was devised and commissioned by publisher Matt Price in collaboration with Hurtwood. The series editor is Anneka French and the series designer is Alice Daisy Pomfret. The books are distributed worldwide by Hurtwood’s distribution partners.
