Anneka French is a freelance writer, editor and curator based in the Black Country, near Birmingham, UK.

She works for art publishers Anomie and Hurtwood as Project Editor and has edited publications including Turner Prize 2021, The Anomie Review of Contemporary British Painting 3 (2024), Tang Shuo: Shadows of Boulder Hill (2024), Raghav Babbar: Indian Summer (2024) and the monograph Susie Hamilton (2024).

Anneka contributes to regularly to publications including Art Quarterly, 1000 Words, Burlington Contemporary, Museums Journal and Photomonitor, and has received other writing commissions from Alexander Berggruen Gallery (New York), Photoworks+, Grain Projects, TACO! and Fire Station Artists’ Studios.

She previously spent four years as Co-ordinator and then Director at New Art West Midlands (CVAN) and spent six years as Editorial Manager of contemporary art magazine this is tomorrow.

Anneka is an independent curator, working most recently on the 2023 and 2021 editions of Coventry Biennial, and curating exhibitions at Grand Union, Birmingham; Kh7 Artspace, Aarhus, Denmark; and Croome, Worcestershire (National Trust). Anneka has worked at galleries including Tate Modern, Ikon, The New Art Gallery Walsall and Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
